Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of Mertie West and other sightseers standing on an observation deck atop the Empire State Building in New York. The observation deck is seen from a slightly elevated view and enters frame from the bottom edge, stretching back on an angle to the right. Mertie West stands on the deck in the near distance at center. Her back faces the camera as she either looks out towards the city or reads a tablet in the wall. A barrier wall lines the perimeter of the observation deck at left and wraps around the back edge towards the right. Ornamentation decorates the wall at far left. Other visitors stand along the wall at left and some stand at right. Beside and to the immediate right of Mertie, a viewing scope stands at the observation deck's corner. A hazy sky obscures the New York skyline in the background. NRHP reference # 82001192 Text from negative sleeve: 2361.
