Original program notes: Archiving Humans | Harrell Fletcher, Jon Rubin, and Nancy Rockafellar | Sun May 31 1998 Artists Harrell Fletcher and Jon Rubin, and historian Dr. Nancy Rockafellar, will discuss the effects of human attempts to collect and organize information about other humans. Some of the representative topics will include anthropological records (stored at UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco) regarding Ishi, last of the Yahi tribe of Native Americans (a subject of local study in the earlier part of this century); as well as exploring unorthodox and other approaches of archiving and documenting real life, people, places, and things, including the participatory portraits of contemporary humans which make up many of the projects of Mssrs. Fletcher and Rubin.
