A fragment of the regimental orderly book of kept at winter quarters at Valley Forge. Two hands. Bookplates: "Samuel W. Pennypacker" and "Depuy." The 3rd New Hampshire regiment was created after Nov. 1776 and served until January 1781 when its remaining men were incorporated into the 1st New Hampshire. The regiment was under the command of Colonel Alexander Scammell, with Henry Dearborn serving as Major and later Lieutenant Colonel. The regiment was part of Enoch Poor's Brigade

The manuscript was part of the collection of Samuel W. Pennypacker sold at a Stan V. Henkels's sale in 1907. It was then acquired by Reinette L. McCrea; sold with the McCrea collection at the American Art Association sale in October 1919 (Sale 1437, Lot 721).
