Donald Shane, director of the Lick Observatory, writes to EPH, regarding a general survey of distribution of extragalactic nebulae using 20-inch plates. He discusses details of the planned project and believes that a method for determining magnitudes needs to be worked out. He mentions experiments he is doing in an effort to find such a method. He thinks they will devote 6 to 8 years to the project. Separately, he is sending prints of the field of Leo. The Observatory has been photographing near the Orion Nebula and he gives some the details as to what they have found.
