Image shows half-length view of Frank A. Vanderlip (1864-1937), wearing hat and three-piece suit, standing behind Gordon Anderson (left) and Tod Snelgrove, each young man holding his winning bird house. Mr. Vanderlip, a financier and president of the National Bank of New York, bought the 16,000-acre Palos Verdes Peninsula sight unseen from rancher Jotham Bixby in 1913 and developed the Palos Verdes Project. Tod Snelgrove was the son of George Brooks Snelgrove, building commissioner for Palos Verdes Homes Association.
