These photographs are contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Three views of The Chutes, at Haight and Cole Streets.
Text written to side of photos: "For many years The Chutes was a favorite family resort. The management presented a good, clean creditable programe [sic] of entertainment. It was moved from this location on account of expiration of lease, the owners of the land wanting it for building purposes. A new structure was erected at 12th Avenue and Fulton Street, but did not become as popular as the original. Another move was made to Fillmore and Turk St. where a most elaborate grounds and theatre were constructed and destroyed by fire. See page 190.
Text under photo at page 329 top: "Entrance to "The Chutes" Haight Street opposite Cole Street, 1894." Shows a crowd outside the Haight Street entrance near the Scenic Railway, with a cable car nearby. The "Chutes" sign above the entrance has been retouched. Text under photo at page 329 center: "The Chutes Theatre. This theatre had a capacity to seat 3000 persons-2000 on main floor, 1000 gallery. Crowded every night people coming from all over the city. Cheap admission- good show." Photo shows large, rather Moorish-looking structure with people posed in front. "Chutes Theatre is lettered on the roof.
Text under photo on page 329 bottom: "View taken from top of Chutes looking east along Haight St. Clayton, Ashbury & Masonic Avenue & Haight St. Tall chimney in center. Car House Oak & Broderick Street. City Hall Dome further east." View looks directly down the Chutes into the pool. The Tunnel of the Scenic Railway is right beyond it. In the near distance the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood has been built up except for the blocks on either side of Haight Street, which remain empty. Streetcars can be seen on Haight and Page.
