Dr. Stephen Kritsick discusses his book, “Creature Comforts,” which talks about issues of pets. He speaks about the differences between purebred versus mixed-breed pets. He states that mixed-breed pets tend to be more tame and healthier in general than purebred animals. One of the biggest advances in animal medicine is in immunotherapy and chemotherapy in dealing with cancer. The cause of cancer is still considered a mystery in animals, as well as people. Kritsick became a veterinarian because he enjoys helping animals, and by taking care of them, he in turns helps their owners. One of the biggest catalysts in Kritsick’s life was running the Boston marathon, which led him to pursue veterinarian medicine at The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Some of the most exotic animals he has treated have been a tarantula, an ocelot, and wild cats.
