1990-1648.
Born in New York City in 1826. Was son of English father and American mother. Arrived in California in 1848 as seaman aboard the vessel Isaac Walton. Worked as bookkeeper for S. Brannan & Co. at Sutter's Fort in 1848. In 1849 went into partnership with William Daylor, running store on Daylor's ranch along the Cosumnes. Worked at various jobs - lawyer in Sacramento, law clerk with Winans & Hyer, district school teacher. Served as Justice of the Peace. Died in 1881.
