Description
Connie and Marcel begin discussing Klaus Barbie’s background and involvement with the Gestapo in Lyon, France. Marcel discusses how Barbie made a fatal mistake in torturing Charles de Gaulle’s envoy, which gave Barbie his notoriety. Marcel goes on to address historic resentments between Germany and France, stating that mutual resentments have been between France and England, rather than France and Germany. They then discuss Barbie’s killing of Jews. Marcel proceeds to relate the coming of Barbie’s trial, and Marcel’s participation with it in his film work. They conclude the interview by discussing other important figures in Marcel’s work, and the comedy and humor to be found in very serious subject matter.
