David Ebershoff discusses his novel, “Pasadena.” He begins by describing the setting of his book and how he wanted to represent California’s rural and industrial history during the Depression Era. He introduces his characters: German immigrants to Pasadena who make their living by fishing and farming. He describes how he used the external landscape of California to mirror the characters' internal struggles. Ebershoff discusses his love of the Bronte sisters and how their writings had a major impact on his life. Martinson asks Ebershoff to read a passage from “Pasadena” about an arranged marriage. He ends the interview by talking about his job at Random House and how he initially used another company to publish his book.
