Photograph caption dated July 22, 1965 reads, "Air Guard in action - Dwarfed by the wing and two engines of a California Air National Guard C97 Stratocruiser, a crewman and member of the Van Nuys-based 146th Air Transport Wing watches Army National Guard troops leave his plane and head for a bivouac area in Hawaii. The Van Nuys unit's planes and crews recently airlifted hundreds of troops to the island state and other distant points as part of a practice operation called 'Golf.' As volunteers, they may join in Viet Nam airlifts."
