Photograph caption dated January 14, 1953 partially reads, "Hugh Hardyman, 50-year-old retired La Crescenta fruit grower, today was called before the Federal Grand Jury here in the opening phase of a nationwide investigation of American delegates to a "peace conference in Communist China several months ago. United States Attorney Walter S. Binns said that the government was trying to determine whether Hardyman made false representations to the State Department when he applied for a passport."
