Photograph caption dated September 30, 1959 reads, "Safe Driving Brings Orchid -- Mrs. Harold Allen, a housewife, of 13355 Dronfield Ave., Sylmar, was grateful when presented an orchid by Sgt. Charles "Chuck" Sherwood for her safe driving practices. Sherwood made the presentation after directing Mrs. Allen over to the curb. Police Chief Winford Slaughter's men handed cigarette lighters to the men for their safe driving and orchids to women during weekend observance of safe driving practices."
