Description
1989-1237. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 24. In the center is a two story house, the entrance being on the first floor with a basement below; the entrance is a double door with a porch open on the right side and a roof; on the left side of the entrance are two round floors; the first floor has two columns in front; second floor has pillasters between windows and this whole left side looks like a tower; above entrance is another floor and on the roof line are crenellations; on the right an additional section of this house sits back from the road; to its right is a tree; in front are lawns; in front of the house is parked a Model T sedan, which is nose to nose with another model T; on the left side of the principal house is another lower building. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Residence of J.W. Pugh, in 1856. Mr. Pugh was 'State rep. in legislature '7th session' from Sacramento County. In 1885 to 1894, was the home of the Upson family."
