Birmingham High School was built on the site of Birmingham Veterans Administration Hospital and was acquired by Los Angeles City Schools in the early 1950s for the token price of $1.00. Photograph caption reads: "James Hageman congratulated by Dr. E. V. Edwards". James Hageman received a citation from Birmingham Veterans Administration Hospital in the San Fernando Valley naming him employee of the month in recognition of his work in constructing scientific apparatus for the hospital.
