Photograph article dated July 13, 1963 partially reads, "Mayor Samuel W. Yorty, flanked by smiling city officials and Valley Plaza merchants, will snip a ribbon Monday at 2 p.m. signaling the first direct traffic over a North Hollywood intersection in 15 months. The opening of the $4 million Laurel Canyon Blvd. - Sherman Way underpass, however, will not erase completely the bitterness felt by many small businessmen who weathered a prolonged drought of customers." Photograph caption reads, "Traffic will flow Monday through $4 million North Hollywood underpass. Opening of Sherman Way-Laurel Canyon Blvd. separation will not soothe all merchants."
