Description
A book promoting Sacramento in the hopes of attracting new residents ranging from manufacturers to artists. It is comprised of essays written by prominent Sacramento citizens such as D.W. Carmichael, founder of Carmichael and president of the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce. It is illustrated with photographs of the Sacramento region in the early 20th century including images of historic Sacramento architecture, including many buildings which are no longer extant. In addition to describing the geography of Sacramento and the surrounding area, this book also outlines infrastructure, economic conditions, and contemporary social movements including the Tuesday Club of Sacramento, a philanthropic social club founded by Nellie Beckman, another contributor. The Tuesday Club was a Progressive Era organization responsible for the creation of local resources such as McKinley Park and traveling libraries.
