Description
The Valley to Vietnam series, produced by the Sacramento Public Library, traces the arc of experience of local Vietnam era veterans. Michael Halldorson grew up in the idyllic splendor of Chico, California, attended Chico State University and eventually ended up on the WWII-era Fletcher Class destroyer, the U.S.S. Hopewell (DD-681). The Hopewell operated off the Vietnamese coast in the South China Sea, primarily near I Corps and the Mekong River Delta. Upon returning home, Halldorson - inspired by artists Janet Turner and MC Escher - pursued a career in printmaking, a passion that still drives him to this very day.
