Photograph was edited for publication purposes Travel Town, an outdoor museum in Griffith Park, Los Angeles, was dedicated in 1952. The Southern Pacific Company, was willing to donate an obsolete locomotive to be the first train on exhibit. The Los Angeles City Recreation and Park Department's museum is visited each week by hundreds of youngsters and adults who are interested in the development of transportation. The focus of the museum is rail transportation, but other items are on display. Photograph caption dated April 28, 1954 reads "Marty Mercer, 22 months old, and the giant old locomotive, No. 3025, combine to make a familiar sight at Travel Town, Griffith Park transportation exhibit located at the edge of the Valley. Youngsters are center's most enthusiastic visitors and boys like Marty find locomotives the biggest attraction. The '3025' was donated by Southern Pacific as first exhibit for Travel Town. Engine is billed as 'Locomotive of Royalty and Presidents,' having pulled trains of Queen Marie of Rumania (sic) and Presidents Taft, Harding and Coolidge."; See images #00121174 through #00121182 for all photos in this series.
