Nancy Horan discusses her novel, “Loving Frank.” She begins by explaining that the book is about Frank Lloyd Wright’s time living in Oak Park, IL and how he falls in love with his client Mamah Cheney. Horan talks about what it was like to write in the first person of Cheney and how she had to be non-judgmental while writing. She talks about how Wright and Cheney were both married to other people when they met and that they traveled to Germany together to have an affair even though their spouses knew. She discusses Mamah’s difficult decision to abandon her children with her sister while she traveled with Wright. Horan talks about how the majority of her work is based on real facts but she gives the characters a voice. She ends the interview by describing her own time living in Oak Park, IL and why she decided to write about Wright and Cheney.
