Description
In 1990 Laurie Leonard established Mama's Kitchen, a food delivery service, whose core belief is that everyone is entitled to the basic necessity of life — nutritious food. Prior to that Laurie was volunteering at a food pantry for people living with AIDS when she noticed that some of her regular shoppers were becoming homebound- too weak to shop for or cook their own food. She enlisted a group of volunteers to help prepare and deliver free, home-cooked meals to those suffering from AIDS. By 1999, Mama's Kitchen (named in honor of her mother Edie) was delivering 100% of their clients' nutritional needs and serving all San Diego County. As of 2016 Mama's Kitchen has delivered 8 million meals to men, women and children affected by AIDS or cancer. California Preservation Service
