A distant view, from left to right, of Al Schmitz, Charles Stavnow and Elmer Cole milling about their campsite under a couple of large pine trees near Rock Creek and Toms Place. Al Schmitz and Charles Stavnow stand on either side of a large pine tree that stands left-of-center. Both face towards the pine tree. A tent is pitched behind Charles Stavnow and in front of another pine tree. To the right of the tent, H. H. West's Cadillac 8 is parked. It is viewed from the side and the front. The front faces slightly right. Elmer Cole stands with his back to the camera as he rummages through the back seat of the car. Fishing poles lean against the front of the car. Its license plate reads, "273172." A hillside rises to the right of the Cadillac. Text from negative sleeve: 834. Rock Creek, Calif. About 1920. I had a Cadillac 8 and got Elmer Cole, who did my auto repairing, Charles Stavnow and Al Schmitz, and we went on a trout fishing trip to Tom's Place. At the foot of the grade on the first down grade beyond Sherwin Hill, we crossed the bridge, ran a little way up the grade toward Tom's Place and turned off the grade under a pine and made camp. We had very poor luck here. It was about the first of June, and very cold. We broke camp and went on over to Hilton Creek and made camp among the rocks there. L to R: Al Schmitz, Charles Stavnow and Elmer Cole at the car. 2 negatives
