In this interview, John Veronis begins by discussing his work with American Home Magazine. He then relates how his growing interest in the business behind publishing led him to seek a better understanding of what he terms, “The business of business.” This led him to enroll in courses with Peter Drucker. Veronis thus applied what he learned from Drucker to his own business. Drucker’s teachings such as, “Don’t confuse motion with progress,” became integral not only to Veronis’ business dealings, but his personal life as well. Towards the middle of the interview he discusses his work with the Curtis Publishing Company and eventually Psychology Today Magazine and explains the significant role that Drucker and his teachings played in each. In the second half of the interview he explains how he started dabbling in investment banking and the importance of Drucker’s concept of the Knowledge Worker. He ends by explaining that Drucker’s most important contribution to the world is that he challenges people to think.
