Charles W. Protzman writes Mr. Isao Watanabe, of the Federation of Japan Electric Communication Industrial Associations, thanking him for his letter, gift, and picture commemorating their management study group. He shares that it is almost unbelievable how anyone could have accomplished so much in so short a time. Protzman says that the only difficulty about progress is that it is a never ending spiral of expansion of management responsibility. Protzman writes that based upon his recent observations of Japan, that it would be wise to look carefully at the present stage of development of production engineering, the assignment and delegation of responsibility, and the practical training required to achieve essential progress, in order to maintain a competitive position in world markets. Protzman goes on to share that he plans to retire within the next few months and that he expects to devote a part of his time to consulting work in the United States or abroad.
