In this audio recording Peter F. Drucker interviews James Osborne in his audio book, “The Nonprofit Drucker.” This tape is part of the series, “Performance and Results.” Drucker begins by introducing Osborne as a commissioner for the Salvation Army. Osborne defines performance based on results, and says that in his line of work, he measures performance by the number of people who are able to change their lives through his institution. He talks about how to get more volunteers in an organization. He says that he sets performance objectives, but that those objectives should change as a population changes. Osborne describes how the Salvation Army keeps progress of individuals through group social work. He ends the interview by saying that social work focuses both on immediate changes and future goals.
