Description
Leonard Goldenson discusses his book, “Beating the Odds.” He begins by explaining that the book is about the behind the scenes story of the rise of the ABC network. He discusses his role as the founder of ABC and what led him to foresee a market for another television network. He shares his thoughts on the idea of mass appeal and "targeting the lowest common denominator." He goes on to explain how he saw the need to bring Hollywood into television and his memories of playing poker with such legends as Sam Goldwyn, and Jack Warner. Goldenson also discusses how ABC came to embrace sports as one of its main programming focuses. Also in this interview he explains his former plans for the expansion of television in the Middle East and his failed attempts to meet with the heads of states abroad.
